Downlands Countryside Management Project
Much of the Downlands Countryside Management Project area is of high landscape value, part within the Surrey Hills AONB. The rolling chalk hills and associated valleys give rise to stunning scenery.
Project activity prioritises management of the rare chalk downland within its area. The Project has sheep and goats which successfully graze the chalk downland as part of a long term management regime. Other work includes development of an extensive series of trails, including contributing to the London Loop walking route, improvements to and signposting of rights of way, woodland management and pond restoration. The Project also runs a wide ranging programme of guided walks.
The Project is supported by Surrey County Council, The London Boroughs of Sutton and Croydon, the Corporation of London, Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, Tandridge District Council and English Nature.
For copies of the Southern LOOP Pack please send a 6 cheque made payable to Surrey County Council and a 61p SAE to the address below. For more details of this walk, and other walks that the Project promotes, visit the page on Countryside Walks. More details of two of the Projects walks, the Banstead Countryside Walk and Downlands Circular Walk, can be found at the London Walking Forum website.
